About Ralph
Ralph A. Korpman, MD is an academic and serial entrepreneurial pioneer in both hematology and medical informatics. Dr. Korpman helped to revolutionize anticoagulation during open heart surgery and has saved thousands of lives with his pioneering work in computer-based health knowledge modelling beginning almost four decades ago. He has also been instrumental in defining each new generation of health information systems, being among the first to introduce the concepts of point-of-care systems, integrated clinical systems, and shared patient and physician portals. His most recent work is pioneering Cognitive Artificial Intelligence – A new branch of AI providing a deterministic truth layer to underpin/complement generative AI frameworks. His work has been cited thousands of times.

Dr. Korpman continues to make his vision of the appropriate use of technology in health care accessible throughout the world. Over the years he has founded successful companies including CentriHealth, Health Data Sciences Corporation, and Medical Data Corporation. Before founding 1HealthSciences, he spent several years as Executive Vice President and Chief Scientific Officer of UnitedHealth Group.

In addition to his corporate work, Dr. Korpman is a full professor at Loma Linda University School of Medicine. Dr. Korpman received his bachelor’s and doctoral degrees in 1971 and 1974 from Loma Linda University, where he also took his residency and fellowship training in hematology. He took his graduate business studies at the Drucker School at the Claremont Colleges. Dr. Korpman is the recipient of a number of awards, including Health Care Pioneer and Entrepreneur of the Year. He is the author of over 100 refereed articles and a book and holds almost 100 patents. He has testified extensively over the years for Congress, for Federal agencies and internationally and was a founder of both the ANSI HISB and ISO TC 215. He has consulted on the health IT environments in over 25 countries. He is also committed to civic and community affairs, serving on several educational and not-for-profit foundation boards of directors including the International Biomedical Research Alliance. Dr Korpman is also appointed to the Advisory Committee to the Director, National Institutes of Health.
